Hallandale Beach

In the late 1800s, Luther Halland was recruited by Henry Flagler to find the first settlement in the area. Along with his business partner, Olaf Zetterlund, Halland sold plots of land to those who were drawn to farming in the warm climate. The area, which was called “Halland”, had attracted twelve families by 1904. Continued growth in the area produced a school, trading post, and a church. Although Halland was located near the beach, it was not developed and was often used by the residents to swim, play games, and enjoy the outdoors.

Later, the name was changed to “Hallandale” and, in 1927, the town was incorporated. As the town continued to grow, it later reincorporated as the City of Hallandale in 1947. The City of Hallandale was able to annex additional land near the Atlantic Ocean. In 1999, the name was officially changed to the City of Hallandale Beach.

Located at the edge of Broward and Miami-Dade counties, Hallandale Beach offers a combination of quiet, residential neighborhoods with an urban city feel. Many restaurants, stores, and businesses are scattered throughout the city. Hidden behind high-rise condos and office buildings, tropical vegetation, and palm trees lies the beach. For many, the drive to reach the beach is almost as spectacular as the ocean views.

There are 38,951 residents living in Hallandale Beach. As with most of South Florida, Hallandale Beach is racially and ethnically mixed as 44.6% is white, 35% Hispanic, and 17.1% African American. The median household income is $34,400 and the median property values is $163,700. Residents in Hallandale Beach often use public transportation, as the average household owns one car.

What is Premise Liability?

The owner or operator of a property may have liability if you are hurt or injured at their location. This is known as premise liability. Common accidents that fall under premise liability claims include slips and falls, faulty equipment, animal bites or attacks, or poor security. Injuries may also occur at swimming pools or around construction sites.

Premise liability claims seek to prove that the owner or operator was negligent, whether intentional or unintentional, in the reasonable care or upkeep of the property. Moreover, a victim must prove that this negligence directly resulted in or contributed to the injury that they sustained.

These types of personal injuries can occur anywhere, including stores, homes, parking lots, or office buildings. The personal injury attorneys at Wolfson & Leon can review your situation to help you determine if this is a premise liability case.
